...but it's still convertible season.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

I'm still in 'save for a house' mode, but I've given some serious thought to picking up one of these Miata's, getting some detailing tools I've been eyeing, and driving it for ~3-4 months before flipping it on CL. Unless something goes seriously wrong, I should be able to get back what I put into it no problem when it's such a low price...

That's a good price. They'd be asking four grand for that same car around here.

"It's still convertible season" is how my dad convinced himself to lease a base Boxster instead of ordering a new Corvette.

I bought a 96 with 120k on it for $3100 a month ago. Body is straight, but it had been resprayed a brighter blue metallic than the original. I'm confident I could flip it for $3500, possibly more if I fixed the fender rot near the rear wheels. I'd jump on it if it is rust free and mechanically sound, and it has all the right upgrades so far. Personally, I'd pass for one with a straight body, but it definitely would be worth it if you had a way to pull the dent and not bankrupt yourself. Then again, those mods would be $1500ish if you bought them new. It just depends on whats important to you.

Sometimes that's all you need. Although a Corvette has a removable top no matter what...

I don't know how to feel.

On one hand, Boxsters are awesome. On other hand, Corvette...

I know, he wanted a convertible, but he didn't want to wait for the car to be built.

I know. Boxsters are cool and all, but the Corvette is just so much better....

Dents wouldn't bother me, but hurt resale.

I'd probably just drive it around for laughs and autocross it a couple times.

I don't think I'm actually going to do this, but I'm tempted. I'm sure at that price if it's mechanically sound and stays that way it'll sell for the same amount in a few months. If I check again in a few weeks and it's still on there I might do it.

Fair enough.

Better? Maybe. Cooler? Certainly. Louder? Absolutely.

For the money of a new Boxster I'd have the 'vette. How long was it going to take for it to be built?

6-8 weeks. Quite reasonable. And if it's faster than the 911 around Laguna Seca, then I'd say it's better then a base Boxster.

That's a very strong price. Make sure to thoroughly inspect the car. NA prices are on the rise in the long run, although 3-4 months won't make much of a difference for you. You could have a blast and get your money back in time to buy a house, what is not to like?

Actually, late in the season is the best time to buy one as most sellers are starting to get desperate to get rid of them before it gets too cold.

Reasonable, but if you wanted a convertible for the summer I get it. I don't agree with the decision, but I get it

Well he leased it, and for a comparable monthly payment, you could have an F-Type. Which he refused to test drive for some reason. What I'm trying to get at is that There are many other choices, but he disregarded all of them. But I do understand.

I know, and our winters aren't too bad actually.

It's almost a no brainier if it checked out, but knowing my luck something would go seriously wrong and my plan to resell it quickly would go to shit.

I'll keep an eye on the listing. If it's still up in a week or two I'll see if I can swing it

The crippling fear that something goes seriously wrong and I hemorrhage money.

I'm going to keep an eye on it...

This one seems too good to be true, but I'm very tempted. I have the cash, and since it's so cheap I'm sure I could sell it for what I pay for it in 6 months, but...I'm a chicken

Yeah, the price is suspicious. Probably was in an accident at one point.

I dunno. Given what I've seen Miatas go for around here one that has 111 mega-miles on it and hail damage seems like that would be about right in price, aftermarket parts or no.
